I don't know how this can happen. One day I put a CD in my computer to find out what it was but windows media player didn't recognize it. So I went to my computer and everything else was there, including local disc and the 3 and 1 half floppy but no cdr drive. So I'm wondering what happened to it because I can't play CD's or install programs without a CD drive.

Theres not really any simple answer to this, some sites say tweek the registory and some say look in the bios.
Serfice to say that i think its more to do with software than hardware; hopefully someone'll post that knows a bit more than me and sort you out.

reinstall the drivers. That happened to me on my old dell desktop, and I reinstalled the drivers and it worked!

If you are unable to install anything, I am guessing that something to with your mother board came unhooked. You will probably need to find someone who can open up the machine, and take a look at it to see if it is plugged in.
Before you go to that step though, I would have a sighted person around. Restart the omputer, and immediately as it is restarting, press f10. That will take you into the setup for the bios. There, have them go to the hardware, and ensure that the drive is nabled. If it is, then revert to looking inside of the machine.
3. If none of those work, try updating your driver. Go to control pannel, and add or remove hardware. Find your CD drive if it is listed. If not, go to driver updating tab. I think that is what it is called.
Press the update button, and if there are any updates, microsoft will throw them down, and you will be set to go.

Yay! I fixed it! There were a couple of screws loose on my computer, no not in my head, lol. Let's just see how long until the screws are loose again.

It's good that you fixed it. Where were the screws loose?
